Coach Spurgeon on Joe “That kid is chiseled from stones found in the primordial ooze”
I would also like to re-hash a conversation I had with Coach Spurgeon at the beginning stages of the season. It went something like this...
Me: Joe really is a special player. He leaves everything he has out on the court and tries to do everything we ask him to do to his full abilities
Spurg: Yeah, if we had 5 Joe Cartwrights we would never lose
Me: We are lucky to have one kid like that
Spurg: Yes we are. Most teams don't have any

Notes, Observations, and Corrections:
Joe doesn't "play" anything....he competes.
Don't let him fool you, he likes history waaaaay more than Calculus.
He could not have picked a better role model unless he picked himself. When my son recently said he would like to play like Joe Cartwright, I dried my eyes, gave him a big hug, returned all of the things I had taken from him for having annoyingly long hair, and drove to Toys-R-Us to buy him whatever he wanted.
I am naming my next son "Cartwright". If that doesn't work out I am demanding my son name his son that.
Favorite Joe Moment: When he was a freshman, the former coach was in the middle of a tirade at Garfield and grabbed Joe (and Zell) by the wrist and LAUNCHED them towards the scorer's table. They landed in a heap 25 feet from the bench.
If I could only listen to one album the rest of my life it would be "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd. If I could only have one food it would be Italo's Pizza, and if I could only watch one person play high school basketball it would be Joe Cartwright.
I was kind of surprised his favorite food wasn't raw eggs...
Actually, I am borderline appalled that his answer wasn't "anything my mom makes" as that is the answer 7 of his teammates, 3 of his coaches, and the Athletic Director would have given.
He must eat it so often that he takes it for granted.. Shame on you, Joe
Definitely one of my favorite players! I think he is a beast however "chisled from stones found in the primordial ooze"...could there be a better compliment?! GO JOE!! GET SOME!!!!! :)
I see Joe as a puma in the high grass ready to pounce at any second to strike down his opponent. If you forget about him, he will kill you with a steal or killer 3. Great job this year Joe!
